OUR STORY

Four Decades of Following
the Wine-ding Backroads

1984

Cynthia and Robert Hurley begin importing Fine Bordeaux into New York and New Jersey, after years spent in Paris falling in love with French wine on weekend drives through wine country.

1990s

The portfolio expands beyond Bordeaux into Burgundy, Loire, and Rhône. Summer vacations become scouting missions — rental cars, paper maps, knocking on domaine doors.

2000s

Distribution grows across the Northeast in the USA. Spain and Italy join the portfolio. The weekly newsletter becomes a beloved institution among wine geeks.

2011

Cynthia Hurley passes away. Robert continues the business, honoring the founding principle of only working with dedicated, family-run producers.

2025

Robert retires and ownership transitions to Angelo Manioudakis, a longtime fan and friend. Angelo and Bob remain committed to the portfolio’s DNA — domaine-only, terroir-driven wines chosen with care.

Today

Over 70 producers across 17 regions in France, Spain, Italy and Greece. Still family-run. Still no négociants. Still no cooperatives.

ANGELO MANIOUDAKIS

PRESIDENT

Angelo spent the first 30+ years of his career in the field of investment management, working at several large financial firms.  In 2025, he retired from his post as Global Chief Investment Officer of Northern Trust, to make the leap into his long-held dream of working in wine.  He acquired Cynthia Hurley French Wines, now called Cynthia Hurley Fine Wines, with the vision to build on the firm’s reputation for highly curated wines that represent a strong sense of place. For over 30 years, Angelo has been passionate about old-world wines of all kinds, but is especially fond of the Northern Rhone, white Burgundy, old Nebbiolo, and Cabernet Franc from the Loire.  Angelo has also invested in several wine-related startups and was one of the initial investors in Coravin.  He is an active member of the Commanderie de Bordeaux and an avid fly fisherman.  Angelo lives in Boston.

ROBERT HURLEY

SENIOR ADVISOR

Bob’s distinguished career in advertising and digital marketing took the Hurleys to Paris in the 1980s, which facilitated Bob and Cynthia’s enchantment with French wine. When they returned to the U.S., Bob helped Cynthia establish herself as an importer and launch Cynthia Hurley French Wines. In 2008, Bob joined the company full-time to expand their carefully selected portfolio, develop a sales team, and increase distribution. Today, Bob advises the company from the office in Massachusetts and his home in Paris, where he is always on the lookout for the next great wine.

BILL BROWNE

NATIONAL SALES MANAGER

Bill joined the Cynthia Hurley team in early 2025. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, he began his career in the wine industry, working in restaurants in both front and back of the house positions. From there, he joined a new French Wine Importer as their first salesperson covering the State of Massachusetts. Bill then spent several years with a larger distributor as a salesperson, portfolio manager, and division manager, and was responsible for the overall retail sales. After spending a couple of years working as the USA Director of Sales for an Italian winery, Bill is excited to be back to his roots and passion with the Cynthia Hurley portfolio of wines. Bill is an avid collector and user of cookbooks and specialty pasta-making tools.

Kyle Martinez

KYLE MARTINEZ

SALES MANAGER

Kyle enjoys creating lasting relationships with clients and colleagues around wine’s intersection of culture, history, hospitality, and cuisine. With over a decade of industry experience, he has developed and managed restaurant beverage programs, managed retail employees, led wine workshops and trainings, and most recently sold fine wine and spirits for the Connecticut distributor. Kyle is currently a WSET3 and is fascinated by how there is always another layer to unravel when studying wine.

ANJEANETTE MASSEY

OFFICE MANAGER

Anjeanette brings a unique blend of organizational expertise, creative insight, and international experience to her role. Before transitioning into operations and administration, Anjeanette spent over a decade in Paris, where she refined her skills in marketing, digital content creation, and communications as Marketing and Communications Manager for La Soufflerie. Her 16 years in France not only shaped her professional path but also sparked a deep appreciation for wine. Now based in Boston, she brings this global perspective and detail-oriented mindset to her role in the fine wine industry, supporting day-to-day operations with efficiency, creativity, and a deep respect for craftsmanship.

CHRISTINA HART

FINANCIAL MANAGER

Christina Hart brings extensive expertise in accounting, bookkeeping, and financial leadership to her role as Head of the Accounting Department. ANITA KATZMAN

FINE WINE CONSULTANT, CS

For more than 20 years, Anita Katzman has worked in the wine industry. Her broad range of experience in wine distribution includes the introduction of a niche wine distributor in New York and the launch of the fine wine division of Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits in New York. Anita considers the greatest pleasure of her work to be the ability to create a connection that brings the magic of a distant vineyard to a setting that becomes richer simply because that particular wine was made.
